چکیده

The ‘Simultaneous Maximum-Likelihood Attenuation Correction Factors’ (sMLACF) algorithm presented here, is an iterative algorithm to calculate the maximum-likelihood (ML) estimate of the activity λ and the attenuation correction factors a in time-of-flight (TOF) positron emission tomography (PET), and this from emission data only. sMLACF is derived using the expectation-maximization (EM) principle by introducing an appropriate set of complete data. The resulting iteration step yields a simultaneous update of λ and a which, in addition, enforces in a natural way the constraint a ≤ 1. Hence, providing an alternative to the MLACF algorithm.

Alternating-direction method of multipliers estimation of attenuation and activity distributions in time-of-flight flat-panel positron emission tomography

National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan A quantitative reconstruction of radiotracer activity distribution in positron emission tomography (PET) requires correction of attenuation, which was typically estimated through transmission measurements. The advancement in hardware development has prompted the use of time-of-flight (TOF) to improve PET imaging. Recently, the application of TOF-PET ha...

Simultaneous reconstruction of attenuation and activity for non–TOF PET/MR using MR prior information

German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany Accurate quantification of the activity distribution in positron emission tomography (PET) mandates attenuation correction (AC). Unlike in PET/CT, AC in PET/MR is, however, challenging, since information about the attenuation properties of the patient tissue distribution is not available directly. Standard MR-based AC (MRAC) does not acc...

Reducing the respiratory motion artifacts in PET cardiology: A simulation study

Introduction: There are several technical features that make PET an ideal device for the noninvasive evaluation of cardiac physiology. Organ motion due to respiration is a major challenge in diagnostic imaging, especially in cardiac PET imaging. These motions reduce image quality by spreading the radiotracer activity over an increased volume, distorting apparent les...

Attenuation Correction in SPECT during Image Reconstruction using an Inverse Monte Carlo Method: A Simulation Study

Introduction: The main goal of SPECT imaging is to determine activity distribution inside the organs of the body. However, due to photon attenuation, it is almost impossible to do a quantitative study. In this paper, we suggest a mathematical relationship between activity distribution and its corresponding projections using a transfer matrix. Monte Carlo simulation was used to find a precise tr...

Impact of PET - CT motion correction in minimising the gross tumour volume in non-small cell lung cancer

AbstractObjective: To investigate the impact of respiratory motion on localization, and quantification lung lesions for the Gross Tumour Volume utilizing an in-house developed Auto3Dreg programme and dynamic NURBS-based cardiac-torso digitised phantom (NCAT). Methods: Respiratory motion may result in more than 30% underestimation of the SUV values of lung, liver and kidney tumour lesions. The m...
